As a part of my daily routine, I spend some time reading other blogs to see what's out there and keep myself updated on what's going on in the blogosphere. One of the people who's blog I read is David Riley, the six figure blogger.

As usual, anytime I find something useful I have to share it with you so that you can benefit from it also. Well, David wrote a post about Tubemogul. I had heard about it before, but never really paid much attention to it. As you probably already know, I've just recently gotten into making online video. You can see my first “semi-professional” video on my “Make Money” page.

As a part of that whole process, my goal was to use video sharing websites like youtube to market my blog and drive traffic to it. The problem is that it takes a bunch of time to upload the videos to these sites. Not only that, I live in a little town in the middle of nowhere (behind God's back, lol) and our “high speed” internet is about as fast as a snail on steroids on a good day.

That's where tubemogul comes in. When you sign up for an account there, you can upload your video to tubemogul.com and then link that account to all of your video sharing site accounts like Youtube, Myspace, Blip.tv and Metacafe (just to name a few). I uploaded mine and it actually uploaded faster than when I tried to upload my videos to Youtube (which didn't make much sense to me).

The benefits of doing this are quite simple:

  1. Takes less time
  2. Gets you more exposure
  3. Great for SEO and driving more traffic to your site

Tubemogul is free up to a point. You have 150 uploads per month. In other words, if you upload 10 videos to 15 sites, you are pretty much done for the month (which in my opinion is way more than enough). I would recommend picking only the more popular video sites. the ones David recommends are Youtube, Yahoo, Myspace, Metacafe, Google, Viddler, DailyMotion and Vimeo. Just a bit of a warning though. Blip.tv is really good in terms of quality, but they will shut you down if they see that you are trying to promote a product or service.

Now, if you are doing more than 150 uploads a month, it can get pretty pricey ($500+ monthly), so I wouldn't recommend going there. Just plan out your videos well and be strategic about the way you upload and you should be fine 🙂

Do you use online video? Please share your experiences. I would love to hear them.
