How to travel while doing freebies

October 10, 2008

If you read my article on the rules of the freebie industry, or if you've done freebie websites before, you should know that one of the rules is that you are only allowed 1 account per household. Not only that, but it is also recommended that you ONLY complete offers and log into your freebie site accounts from home – never at a workplace, public place or pretty much anywhere else.

This is very true. The freebie sites have systems in place to detect if you are violating that rule, and can put your account temporarily or permanently on hold if you do so. For these reasons, I always emphasize that rule to people I work with.

The exception

Now that I have that out of the way, allow me to let you in on a little secret. One of the things I enjoy about trading freebies is the ability to do it from anywhere. I travel often, and like to have the freedom to log into my accounts and do business wherever I am. I know what you are thinking – “Why am I allowed to do that, while you aren't?” That's a very good question my friend. Allow me to explain (now that I've confused you a little).

Logmein

The reason I'm allowed to do this is because I use a service called Logmein. With logmein, I actually install software on my home computer, and then I can use a browser (anywhere in the world) to access my computer. That way, I'm able to log on to my home computer and use that to log into all of my accounts. The great thing about it is that it is 100% free, and works very well as long as your home computer is connected to the internet.

I've used logmein to access my accounts on buses driving from state to state, in my car on the road (even while driving – although I never recommend that anyone does this), on airports, and even while on vacation in the Bahamas (yes, I know – I should not have been doing this while on the beautiful island).

Nationwide Wireless Internet

Now, I'm a little extreme. I like to be able to access my accounts from ANYWHERE (as I mentioned). Because of this, I signed up for nationwide wireless internet with Alltel, my cellular phone company. This service is available from most cellular phone companies. It involves you purchasing a wireless card and connecting it to your laptop. The service isn't always lightning fast, but it is definitely enough to get me online when I need to be online.

So there you have it. If you are a person on the run, and would still like to do freebies, there are always options. I recommend checking out logmein. If you have any questions about it, you can always post them here.

    Hi Leslie,
Again, some very valuable information! But I do have a question. I understand the critical importance of completing actual offers solely from my home computer. But wouldn’t it be all right if I were to log into a freebie site from the public library or my laptop on a public network while traveling:
    (1) just to check on the status of credits; or (2) just to check on the status of my referrals; or (3) just to submit or check on a support ticket.
    Thanks ~

  • That all depends on the site. I’ve heard site owners say that you shouldn’t even log in from other locations, but I know some don’t mind as long as you aren’t completing offers (which is usually the case). I usually say if you are logging in from somewhere else, use remote access just to be on the safe side. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Some good tips mentioned. I found Logmein to be a valuable resource for remote control of my computers, never for freebie stuff, but other wise as well.

  • […] Now, as you know, you cannot access freebie sites internationally (with a few exceptions). Actually, you should ONLY use your home computer to access freebie sites. Because of this, I will have to access my freebie sites using logmein.com. So if you find yourself in a situation where you are going to be traveling and you need to access your freebie sites, go ahead and read my article on How to Travel while doing Freebies. […]
