I was featured on MSN Money – Great exposure for the Freebie Industry

February 10, 2009

Yesterday was a pretty amazing day. The Freebie Industry got GREAT exposure yesterday. It's actually kind of interesting how these things happen. Last month, I was interviewed by Bob Lotich from www.ChristianPF.com. This interview was basically to give an introduction to what Freebie Trading is and you can listen to the interview entitled Freebie Trading 101 – How to make Money with Freebie Sites.

This interview was then linked to by www.ptmoney.com as one of 52 ways to make extra money. Today I found out that that article was featured on MSN Money. You can find the article here and you can see that Freebie Trading is mentioned as number 13, with a link to the interview. It also talks about 51 other ways to make money besides Freebie Trading. Some of the ways it mentions are pretty simple, but there are some good suggestions if you are looking for other things to do to make money (both online and offline).

Why This Is Great

The Freebie Industry is a relatively new industry – one that is not widely known. It has lots of potential and people are starting to realize how great it is for providing a supplementary income and even a full time income. The more people realize how great it is, the more people will jump in, and the more exposure the industry will get. I truly believe that this will strengthen the industry in a way that will provide for growth, which is what we all want.

If you are one of the MANY visitors that came to this blog from that article on MSN Money, welcome to the Freebie Industry. You will find that it's a great way to make money online. There are a bunch of articles here for you to read. So sit back, read, learn and act.

  • Leslie,

    Good on you my friend!

However, I’m gonna have to take a little steam out of your engine. I’ve been successful in the IM (internet marketing) space for over 5 years now, and I’ve seen MMO methods come and go. The Freebie Industry is an absolute anomaly in regards to how it has stayed around as long as it has. It is unstable and the quality of the leads generated through IFW’s is terrible, early cancellations, etc. Most of the companies that provide the offers live of their re-bill program and when the offer is canceled before the trial ends, they make little money.

Too much exposure can lead to a rape and pillage of the Freebie Industry, much like methods of the past. Fortunately the write-up wasn’t too large, as I believe Freebie Trading has survived as long as it has by being somewhat “underground” and frowned upon due to the fact that most do not know how to get referrals.

I use Freebie Trading as a supplement to my current income, it’s an easy way to make money and it’s fun. Let’s try to keep it that way and preserve it so that we all can make money for years to come.

    • Thanks man. I do hear what you are saying, but I would definitely say that The Freebie Industry is a very viable one. Affiliate marketing has been around for a while, and adding an incentive component to the way affiliate marketing is done is a solid idea. In my opinion, the Freebie Industry still has LOTS of room for growth and will continue to grow for a while. Any method of making money online has the potential to end some day. That’s a fact. Freebie Trading is not immune to that. But if people like you and I continue to do what we do with Freebies in the right way, it will last for a long time 🙂

Just wanted to leave a follow up comment to this. The incentive community has been through its up and downs and certainly has the ability to end. I don’t see it ending anytime soon as long as everyone does their jobs. Affiliate networks need to properly monitor for fraud. Believe it or not, most of the affiliate networks who complain are the ones who allow risky/sketchy publishers into their program. So first, these affiliate networks need to clean up and enforce fraud prevention on a macro-level. Second, freebie sites need to be honest with themselves and hold any users who are susceptible of fraud. It has been known for some freebie site owners to turn a blind eye to bad traffic for more profits. Third, users need to understand that they should complete offers that grab their interest. As a site owner myself, i’ve signed up through various offers and actually kept a few. I’ve had FreeCreditReport for over 1 year now. If affiliate networks, freebie sites, and users can do their part, I don’t see the incentive industry going anywhere. I think more and more, everyone is realizing what is necessary and are taking the proper actions. Hopefully the incentive industry will live long and be prosperous for advertisers, affiliate networks, freebie sites, and users.

    • Well said, Fehzan. As long as everyone plays their positions (EVERYONE) and keeps with the transparency the Freebie Industry should stay around a while.

Nicely said! The freebie industry had a couple of scares in the past when major advertisers backed out (I know of at least one big one that caused some freebie sites to close), but if people are good to the networks and behave legitimately (not just seeing this as a “fast money business”), there is a lot of good money to last over the next couple of years.

Glad it brought you some great exposure, Leslie. It actually hit the front page of MSN for about 4 hours as a “favorite”. I, and many who I’d linked to, saw some pretty hefty traffic. It was a fun, and profitable day. 🙂 Everyone got in on the fun.

Just goes to show you that if you’re doing something special and are willing to share it with people (like you’re doing), great things will eventually happen. Best of luck to you guys in this freebie biz and with your blog.
